![]() I did say I'd prefer this to be in the game from day one. This would guarantee us a few years of thematic, interesting content to look forward to.Ĭlick to expand.Wow. If you can't irradiate your city with a nuclear meltdown disaster at the fission plant, I'm gonna pout.ĬS1 sometimes has trouble finding a good theme for DLCs. Use dirty, highly polluting tech all you want, with the excuse of "that's what they did back then!" (you monster) - then pass for an ecological saint when you finally remove that toxic waste processing plant next to the kindergarten. Finish things off beautifully with a few Future Tech DLCs - bring on those fusion power plants and arcologies. To let people buy the DLCs they want, if someone's has the 1900s DLC and the 1980s DLC but nothing else, they still can progress through the intermediate years but nothing unlocks for those - so you go through the 1950s still having 1900s tech, and only unlock new stuff when the 1980s comes around. Having any of the time progression DLCs unlocks the time progression mechanic, letting you use workshop assets and mods that tie into it. Each DLC covers one or two decades going backwards from 2020. I would like to see this in the game from day one, or a future major expansion/re-release of the game (think Platinum Edition) to ensure a consistent experience, but I think it could also be introduced pretty well with a series of DLCs too. Nothing like an old town center where you can still take a stagecoach to set a nice mood for dining. It would give the various transportation options time to shine in the time period they were popular in, as well as give more personality to your city as some buildings and neighborhoods become preserved historical milestones. To be clear, those games have you the option to start directly in the modern era, and I think CS2 should too. It gave you more to look forward to besides population milestones, and good reasons to upgrade parts of your city to integrate new tech. A feature I've been missing a lot in recent city builders is the optional time progression starting from the 1900s that was present in SimCity 20 (and also in recent tycoon games like Transport Fever 2).
